Bail Reduced for Hells Angel: Public Safety, Character Weighed in
Decision
Posted on: Tuesday, 8 July 2008, 12:00 CDT

By Minerva Perez, Los Banos Enterprise, Calif.

Jul. 7--Citing a clean record and ties to the community, a Merced
County Superior Court judge lowered the bail amount of an Atwater man
who was allegedly involved in violence at a peace rally that occurred
late last month.

Judge Frank Dougherty lowered the bail of Kellen Brenton from $500,000
to $110,000 at a bail hearing held Monday at the Robert M. Falasco
Justice Center.

Brenton, 58, a member of the Hells Angels, was arrested June 28 after
police said he and other members of the motorcycle gang allegedly
started a fight with members of the Mongols motorcycle gang at a stop
the violence rally.

During the fight five to six shots were fired from a .40-caliber
handgun and a Hells Angel prospect was stabbed.

Police said they found the magazine of a semi-automatic weapon during
a pat-down of Brenton but were unable to locate the handgun. Police
also reportedly found a "whip" on Brenton's motorcycle.

Brenton was charged with suspicion of having a dangerous weapon, which
would normally carry a $25,000-$45,000 bail amount. But Los Banos
police asked the district attorney to increase it to $500,000 to
ensure the safety of the community.

The request was denied.

Brenton's attorney Linden A. Lindahl argued that the amount was
excessive and offered testimonials that his client was a family man
and gainfully employed member of the community.

"Mr. Brenton is a lifelong resident of the Valley, he has lived here
all his life, he is not a flight risk" Lindahl said. "And as the court
can tell, he has community support."

Brenton's support system included friends, family and his employer,
all of whom packed Dougherty's courtroom to attest to his character.

Brenton's wife, Cindy, said in their 32-year marriage she has never
known her husband to be in trouble and is a good father to their two
daughters.

"He's a wonderful man, his bail should not be this high," she said.

Philip de Leon, Brenton's boss, said the only reputation his employee
has is as one of the best mechanics in the Valley. De Leon said that
with his salary Brenton would not be able to pay the bail amount.

Lindahl provided Dougherty with letters in favor of a lower bond from
people who know Brenton.

Dougherty said there needed to be a balance between Brenton's clean
record and public safety.

He lowered the bail amount by $390,000.

Brenton has been in custody since June 28 at the John Lotorraca
Correctional Facility. He was present at the bail hearing via video
conference. The only time he spoke during the hearing was to
acknowledge that he heard the judge's orders.

Judge bars Mongols chief from club
Sentenced - Justin "Mooch" DeLoretto is sent to jail for a year for
menacing conviction
Tuesday, June 24, 2008
BRYAN DENSON
The Oregonian Staff
A Lane County judge sentenced the president of Oregon's Mongols
Motorcycle Club on Monday to a year in jail and ordered him not to
associate with other Mongols -- including his twin brother -- or any
outlaw biker gangs.

Circuit Judge Debra Vogt ordered Justin "Mooch" DeLoretto, 27, to
serve six months for each of two counts of menacing. She also
suspended his driver's license and ordered him to serve five years of
probation in which he can neither associate with the Mongols nor wear
their insignia.

A jury last week found DeLoretto not guilty of eight felony charges
but guilty of misdemeanors for his role in an April 23 auto chase. He
and two associates were accused of trying to run a pair of gang
investigators off Interstate 5 during rush hour on the northeast end
of Eugene.

"Ridiculous," said DeLoretto's twin brother, Jeremy. He described
Monday's sentencing as judicial overkill that his brother would not
have faced as an ordinary citizen rather than the founding president
of Oregon's chapters of the Mongols. "We assumed the judge would be
more lenient. You're talking about misdemeanor charges that are
essentially traffic charges."

Jeremy DeLoretto said it was unclear what impact his brother's jailing
and no-association order would have on the Mongols' leadership in
Oregon. Jeremy, who has been acting president while his brother
awaited trial, said he didn't know who would take over.

"We'll figure it out," he said.

Justin DeLoretto was the driving force behind establishment of Mongols
chapters in Eugene and Portland last fall. A bright, charismatic
leader, he has a quick smile and an abundance of tattoos -- including
"Mongols" stretching across the back of his head.

The new chapters gave the California-based Mongols -- rivals of the
notorious Hells Angels -- a foothold in Oregon.

The Oregon Mongols soon found that wherever they went, police were
sure to follow. The most relentless of the club's pursuers were
Special Agent Jimmy Packard of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco,
Firearms and Explosives, and Detective Dave Burroughs of the Eugene
Police Department.

The two investigators drove to Justin DeLoretto's home in rural Turner
on April 23 to confirm where he lived because he was a suspect in a
Eugene nightclub assault. DeLoretto spotted the two and followed them
into nearby Salem and then south to Eugene, phoning other Mongols to
back him up.

Two Mongols associates, Matthew A. Weiss and Nathan A. Cassidy,
pleaded guilty to felony charges for their roles in attempting to run
Packard and Burroughs off the road.

"I think the no-contact clause with any other motorcycle gangs was a
huge victory for us," said Burroughs. "We're trying to stop the
Mongols spreading throughout the state. That's our goal."

Mongols Motorcycle Club president blasts police response

10:00 PM PDT on Wednesday, June 11, 2008

By SARAH BURGE
The Press-Enterprise

Police were out in force last week, cracking down on what they called
an "outlaw biker gang" that passed through Temecula on its way to a
weekend gathering in San Diego County.

But if the Mongols Motorcycle Club is any indication, bikers are
working on their image. The Mongols' president, 51-year-old Ruben
"Doc" Cavazos, has a New York publicist and a new memoir about his
life as a Mongol.

Cavazos said Wednesday that police in Riverside and San Diego counties
harassed the group without provocation, stopping Mongols on
motorcycles and searching their RVs for contraband.

"I think that the motorcycle clubs are truly the last group that you
can violate their rights and nobody says anything," Cavazos said.
"They stepped all over us this weekend."

Dozens of sheriff's deputies and officers from around the area pulled
over Mongols in and around Temecula, holding some at gunpoint, issuing
58 citations and arresting 17 people. Most were booked on suspicion of
misdemeanor evading police, two for possession of methamphetamine and
one for possession of a concealed handgun.

Traffic on Interstate 15 slowed to a crawl for hours Friday afternoon
as passers-by checked out the police activity.

In San Diego County, droves of law enforcement officers patrolled the
area around the La Jolla Indian Reservation campground, where the
Mongols gathered, keeping an eye out for any misbehavior. No
disturbances were reported at the event.

"I think they really overreacted this time," Cavazos said. "Who was
waving guns around? It wasn't us."

Cavazos said the Mongols were minding their own business, gathering in
San Diego County to talk about Cavazos' just-published memoir and to
hold a wedding. (It was a "Mongol wedding." The bride wore black.)

About 200 to 300 Mongols, friends and family from California and
across the country attended, Cavazos said.

In Temecula, he said, police were hoping to find a lot of guns and
drugs.

"When it didn't work, they started getting really picky," Cavazos
said, stopping Mongols for things like helmet and handlebar
violations. "They ordered all that overtime. They needed to make some
arrests," he said.

At the reservation, Cavazos said, a police helicopter circled the
campground, training its spotlight on them and a police armored
vehicle with a machine gun was stationed nearby.

"They were dressing up in camouflage and sneaking in through the
bushes," Cavazos said. "They created a circus out there."

It is no mystery why law enforcement might be wary of a Mongol
gathering. In one of the most notorious incidents involving the
Mongols, club members and their rivals the Hells Angels got into a
brawl in 2002 at a casino during a biker rally in Laughlin, Nev. Three
bikers were killed, according to news accounts.

San Diego County sheriff's Capt. Don Crist declined to discuss the
specifics of their operation but said that, in the past, Mongols have
been "very violent" and involved in criminal activities.

"I think it was an appropriate reaction," Riverside County sheriff's
Capt. Jerry Williams said. "When you get that many known gang members
in one area, there's usually going to be problems."

Cavazos said police had no reason to expect violence last weekend. It
was not as if the Hells Angels were invited, he said.

"It was all Mongols," Cavazos said. "There was nobody to fight with."

Eatery was alleged crime ring's home base

By ROB LAMBERTI, SUN MEDIA

The Toronto Sun

RICHMOND HILL -- The core of an alleged crime ring that police say
peddled drugs, trafficked guns and targeted other criminals is
believed to have masterminded its operations in a Danforth Ave.
restaurant it called "the office."

Trying to avoid police surveillance, the group would meet and chat
quietly in a public place. They would also walk and talk along the
main thoroughfare in Toronto's Greektown to avoid prying police ears.

They didn't do it well.

Police from York, Peel, Toronto and the OPP, working together on
Project Betrayal, have been picking off the 25 members and associates
of the tight-knit group. They also intercepted about 50,000 phone
calls.

One man, James Biliouras, has fled to Greece after getting bail in
May.

Another man, Harry Lainis, a member of the Hells Angels Simcoe
chapter, is accused of possessing a kilo of cocaine for the purpose of
trafficking.

Police announced yesterday the ring was discovered after witnesses
called 911 for the September 2007 robbery of cash from two Montreal
drug dealers at Richmond Hill's Hilton Garden Inn. Since the dealers
didn't call, detectives wonder if other criminals have been robbed by
the suspects but remain silent.

"There was a restaurant where they would meet on the Danforth, they
would meet and they would actually call it the office," York Det.-Sgt.
Duncan MacIntyre said.

"(Many are) career criminals and ... have been subjects of wiretaps in
the past, so they're very smart ..."

He said the men who formed the nucleus of the organization met daily.
"These gentlemen all have reputations on the street as being involved
in that type of stuff."

But the group not only worked for itself. "They were able to do things
for other people," he said. One man is charged with extortion for
trying to extract payment in a botched cocaine deal.

Detectives discovered that, while centred at the Greektown restaurant,
the ring worked throughout the GTA.

One suspect, Dobroflov "Bulgarian Bobby" Manchev, the alleged
mastermind of the crew, had served a 61/2-year prison term for running
a robbery gang that included former Toronto cop Darin Cooper, a
10-year veteran sentenced to 91/2 years in jail.

That ring, busted in Project Captain in 2000, used police-issue gear,
including vehicles, to rob traffickers.

It was deja vu for police in Betrayal as the suspects again used
police gear during a Queen St. break-in and allege there's evidence of
plans to simulate cops in other crimes.

Det. James MacSween described Manchev as "sophisticated. ... His
co-accused (in 2000) was an ex-Toronto police officer, he has working
knowledge how police operate and whatnot."

MacIntyre said the project name was devised because "these people were
dealing with other criminals in the underworld they are in, betraying
each other."

"These gentlemen worked separately of each other in smaller groups,
but when there was something big going on, as (in) drug dealers or
large thefts, these guys would come together," he alleged.

"We're talking at upwards of multi-kilos of cocaine they were looking
at stealing from people, robberies in excess of $275,000 that they
were planning ...," MacIntyre alleged.

MacIntyre said police discovered Manchev planned to flee Canada as
others were being arrested. Police executed the final 11 warrants on
June 4.

In Manchev's home, police found an escape kit, including euros, fake
ID and passport, said MacIntyre. In a freezer, police found $50,000
cash.

In another raid, police found a suitcase behind a wall in the Richmond
Hill home of Tasuli Mustakinovski containing Kevlar vests with
"police" emblazoned on them, police hats and holsters and radio
equipment, MacIntyre said.

"The main targets of our investigation remain in custody," he said,
while some are on bail with strict conditions.

Hells Angels to hold anniversary bash
Uniformed police will be a visible presence at Langley gathering

Kelly Sinoski
Vancouver Sun

Thursday, July 10, 2008

When the Hells Angels holds its 25th anniversary bash this month,
uniformed officers of the Metro Vancouver police are planning to join
the party.

Officers from the RCMP and municipal police forces will attend the
two-day event, set for July 25-26 at Hells Angels' clubhouse in
Langley.

"We're going to make a special effort to participate as heavily as we
can in that," Vancouver Police Insp. Dean Robinson said Wednesday.
"We're keenly aware of all the things we can leverage in our favour."

The White Rock chapter of the Hells Angels, which is based out of
Langley, is host of the party for the Vancouver, Nanaimo and White
Rock chapters.

Hells Angels representative Rick Ciarniello would not comment on the
plans for the bash or how people plan to attend.

"It's just a private party," he said, adding: "We're not anticipating
on there being any problems."

At least 200 Hells Angels and associates are expected to attend the
party at the clubhouse, located at 21764 61st Ave., Langley RCMP Cpl.
Peter Thiessen said.

He wouldn't disclose how many officers would be attending the bash,
but said police have developed a strategy to deal with any problems.

Resources are being drawn from around Metro Vancouver to ensure there
is no cost to the front-line policing in the various regions, he
added.

"We're in a position to deal with any issues that might come up with
the Hells Angels event," Thiessen said. "We're basically taking the
Hells Angels' lead; it's up to them as to how this is going to go."

City officials for both the city of Langley and Langley Township say
they don't expect any major problems.

"We're hopeful they'll be respectful of the neighbourhood," said
Francis Cheung, chief administrative officer for the city of Langley.

Jack Arnold, acting mayor of the city of Langley, said the police will
be ready to deal with any emergencies.

"Traditionally when they hold something like this, they go out of
their way to behave themselves," he said.

"We're hoping there aren't any problems but we have enough resources
on hand to deal with any problems."

Among those officers attending the event will be members of the
special uniformed gang task force, which was started last November to
combat gang violence in Metro Vancouver.

Robinson said since it began eight months ago, the "unified" task
force has been cruising the known hangouts of criminals, including
bars, restaurants, community centres and gyms and has increased
patrols to rodeos, concerts and beaches.

"It takes the cloak of invisibility off these gangsters," Robinson
said.

"They used to roam around unnoticed in the regions. We're undressing
them with this intelligence feature."

The patrols, which used to be done only at night, have now increased
to day and night seven days a week.

Since November, the task force has laid 72 criminal charges in
connection with firearms, weapons and assault offences and seized
$90,000 in cash believed to be proceeds of crime, Robinson said.

Eleven pounds of marijuana and a kilogram of cocaine were also seized.

"We've been working day and night seven days a week. We're focusing on
any area or venue where we think we can find these people," Robinson
said.

The number of incidents of shots fired in Vancouver has plummeted from
25 in the first six months of 2007 to just one this year.

(Greg-YOU CALL THIS REPORTING? This statement by Insp. Dean Robinson

One local media outlet has stated that a motorcycle gang was
responsible for the worst homicide in Surrey history. You would think
the police and authorities would use this as an excuse to crackdown on
these miscreants but instead they are letting it go in this case.

HA
is involved with
extortion, homicide, kidnapping, prostitution, meth and cocaine
dealing, rape, armed robbery and motorcycle theft and child
pornography
as well as phony currency and witness intimidation and obstruction of
justice. They have been known to bribe and scare law enforcement
officers and judges into doing their bidding. These ppl must be
rooted
out of the Cdn justice system. Two judges have actually done their

and declared HAMC a criminal org and the Victoria Times-Colonist is
calling for it to be banned as a terrorist org.

The White Rock chapter Sgt.Of Arms, Villy Roy Lynnerup, recently was
arrested for trying to board an airplane at YVR
with a loaded firearm. Was probably going to crash the plane into the
Downtown courthouse or hold the passengers hostage in exchange for
the
release of Moms Boucher and all imprisoned full patch members. All
the
Hell's Angels, their supporters, associates etc. should be imprisoned
for twenty years
their children put in foster care and their assets seized.
Ppl are trying to get HAMC listed as a terrorist org. If you support
this
then write letters to editors of local newspapers and your local MP.
As well John Les the solicitor-general of BC before he resigned has
advocated banning
the wearing of gang colours such as biker patches in bars. Perhaps
John VanDongen can finish the job he started. Since HA
is
known to frequent Brandi’s and the Cecil and has links to
various bars in BC that would be an improvement. The gang has a
history of intimidating
bartenders, infiltrating unions involved in the bar industry, beating
and killing strippers and beating customers to death at random for no
reason. Contact your MLA as well as the local media and tell them you
want this implemented sooner rather than later.
VPD is appealing again for info about the homicide of Maria Yvette
Monzon who was shot dead on the westside of Vancouver. She was killed
by HA but the police have never stated that. There is a reward.

Colleen Reiter (Ryder?) of Surrey was killed by HAMC but the RCMP
refuse to confirm this.
